Balay sa Busay: Homey Cliffside Restaurant in Cebu

There is a new restaurant in town and it’s quite interesting to begin with. Food? Ambiance? Location? Affordability? Overall Dining Experience? All perfect!

If you’re planning to take a road trip along the scenic Transcentral Highway, make sure to drop by at Balay sa Busay. Balay Sa Busay is the newest cliffside restaurant in Cebu that promises a delightful gastronomic indulgence. Strategically perched on top of a lush highland, this “homey-resto-with-a-millenial-twist” boasts an alfresco dining set up that guarantees nothing short of panoramic scenery.

Let’s take a tour (and experience a taste of home)!

Modern Bahay Kubo

On the outside, it looks like a typical house that seemingly exudes a residential vibe, rather than a commercial one. But as you go nearer, you know it’s no longer the case as you’ll be lured with the smell of the familiar yet mouth-watering home-cooked foods.

Just before you enter the food house, this unique logo will greet you at the doorstep. You will encounter more of this icon inside the resto, even up to the railings enclosing the open-air veranda.

Adorable staff will welcome guests with this greeting “Dayon kamo sa Balay!”, demonstrating the classic warmth of Filipino hospitality.

Upon entering, the first thing you’ll notice about the interior is the high white-painted ceiling. It is designed to make the room grand, providing a heavenly feels just like you’re up in the sky soaring endlessly.

Inspired by the traditional bahay kubo, which are typically built with large windows, Balay’s huge charming windows are actually designed to let in more air and natural light.

And speaking of bahay kubo, Balay sa Busay’s logo resembles a contemporary nipa hut (a.k.a. payag or kamalig) and is actually its structural layout. You shouldn’t miss this little detail when you visit Balay!

This is one of the quaint function rooms wherein you can hold private meetings or small gatherings. If this setting doesn’t look familiar, try checking your grandparents’ old-fashioned furniture in their ancestral home.

Thumbs up to Balay sa Busay for providing a designated CR for people with disabilities, the elderly and pregnant women. And oh, it get’s a whole lot more interesting when you get to the female’s comfort room – be surprised by a vanity mirror!

Alfresco Dining

Imagine enjoying a meal or grabbing a drink with good company in an atmosphere consisting of cool air, twinkle lights (at night), and light chatter – a stellar outdoor dining experience!

There are available seats at the veranda ranging from a pungko-pungko type to long dining table set. There is also an upper deck that offers additional space to cater more diners.

Dine with an unobstructed view of the metro while enjoying the company of your loved ones. Feeling hungry yet?

Mind you, this dining spot offers one of the best views of the city, both day and night.

Sumptuous Food

Then there’s the food. Balay sa Busay offers various classic Filipino cuisine with a distinctive taste that you’ll surely love.

We tried the Mixed Root Chips, Fried Mandunggo, and my fave Watermelon Salad for the appetizers! Just like the catchy names of Balay’s main menu such as Hamonada sa Among Bukid, Ang Paboritong SIsig Ni Tatay, Adobong Binisaya ni Bebe and Binagoongang Baboy Ni Tiyo, you’ll surely fall in love with each bite. Matcha Buko and Banana cue ala mode are surprisingly good.

Here’s a rare aerial shot of our team having a great munch time with Balay’s delish meals.
