VivoMigsGee Pad: A Virtual Tour of My Apartment in Malé, Maldives

My first week here in MV has been busy, the reason I failed to respond to some of my friends’ questions about my living condition in a new environment. Well, to be honest, responding via chat one by one is time-consuming so I want to blog my accommodation for better visual and explanation. So today, I’m sharing some snaps of my little one bedroom apartment in Malé. Or should I just officially call it VivoMigsGee Pad?

Anyways, for a quick backgrounder, it’s located at the heart of the city, near to almost everything. As in food shops, pharmacy, fruit market, mall, grocery stores and more. In fact, It is also less than 10 minutes walk to and from the office. The rent is part of our accommodation allowance (so it’s not totally FREE), but at least the employer wouldn’t mind whether or not employees utilize the same for its intended purpose. If you know what I mean.

So yes, I’ve chosen to rent an apartment ‘coz why not? I truly think I deserve to live in a clean single-unit apartment in the Maldives as long as it is within my means. Anyways, it’s newly built so I’m the first tenant (no other rooms on the floor), although there are other pads to be added on top of my unit in 2022. Of course, I can’t wait for the elevator (locals call it lift) to be installed as well.

What’s also interesting about it is the room door. It has a biometric door lock (entry using fingerprint and a key card as an alternative) plus the main door at the entrance (ground floor) which has a double door lock. I can say that the security is top-notch!

All furniture, fixtures and home accessories are bought from IKEA. Well, I don’t even have anything bought from IKEA back in the Philippines so I kinda love them already. The quality, the design, the functionality – all practical!

One funny thing though, there’s a gas hob and oven but I don’t know how to cook or bake. LOL. Well, at least I already bought a LPG cylinder, just in case the spirit of MasterChef’s Gordon Ramsay will be awaken. Who knows, right?

Let’s proceed to my bedroom. My first observation – it is very spacious. The second sliding glass doors divides the living room and the bedroom. The doors also have locks for added protection.

I also love the set-up of the A/C, soft mattress in the sturdy bed, ceiling fan, cabinet, windows, chair and small table inside my own space. I think I would be spending more time here than any of VivoMigsGee Pad’s areas.

To be honest, I never had a nice and clean bathroom / toilet back in my previous boarding houses in the Philippines. This is the end portion of my little pad in Malé. It has a small area for washing machine for laundry.

I’m just ecstatic with the hot/cold shower, bidet, and the cute sink faucet that looks like a shishi odoshi, Japanese water fountain made of bamboo and mainly found in tea gardens.

It’s also well ventilated. Thanks to three windows placed strategically around VivoMigsGee Pad and the existence of a balcony. The glass sliding doors opened on to a balcony with a view of the city street – definitely superb! Likewise, the outdoor furniture adds comfort to my favorite spot for dinner. Probably the star of my apartment, don’t you think?

Well, that’s it for now. I still have to go out and buy a couple of essential home accessories to make my life in Maldives better. Couldn’t be more thankful with my employer for this amazing accommodation.
