Kurumba Maldives: My First Tropical Holiday Staycation in the Maldives’ First Resort

IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!! Cue the Christmas music!

In its simplest sense, Christmas Day is all about family. Christmas means going home to your hometown and reconnecting with loved ones — eating, drinking, merry-making and celebrating love. As they say, the best gift that one could wish for underneath the Christmas tree, is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.

Well, planning for my last holiday this year, I thought that it is going to be a strange one. It’s for sure. I’m normally surrounded by family either in Dipolog or Cebu but this year (for the first time in my life) I’m staying at an unfamiliar place where Christmas is not even celebrated. Or so I thought.

Holiday Staycation in Kurumba

Christmas may not be an official holiday here in the Maldives but celebrating it is nonetheless unmuted. While locals don’t believe in this special season, private resorts are the exemption. They even have a day or two of preparation just for guests around the world who celebrate the festivities. So yeah, my first ever resort visit was scheduled on the week of Christmas Day and it happened to be the first private island resort in the Maldives. Say hello to Kurumba Maldives!

Kurumba Maldives is a boutique luxury resort closest to the airport. It is situated on a tropical private island in North Male Atoll called Vihamanaafushi and features beautiful white sand beaches and scenic coconut trees surrounded by aquamarine waters and protective wavebreakers.

My first resort visit in the Maldives is actually a memorable one with a lot of firsts. I had my first pork-based meal, first liquor, first private beach and first holiday staycation in the first ever resort that has transformed the Maldives into a tourist hotspot as it is now.

Christmas in Kurumba is such a treat. I’m referring to not just the visual and culinary aspects of celebration, but also social — the warmth of the local people and colleagues. They made sure that I won’t be left out and that I will have the best time of the year.

I roamed around the island and saw some beautiful Christmas-themed decorations to match the holiday season. I was so happy like a kid seeing colorful and bright ornaments around the resort. Indeed, the spirit of Christmas in Kurumba Maldives is very much alive!

I even had a chance to visit Kurumba’s Royal Accommodation: 2BR Residence. Set on the beachfront, the only two bedrooms, two private jacuzzis luxury villa on the island. Thoughtful touches: two flatscreen TVs, two standing outdoor and indoor showers, one lush central dining and lounge with a large veranda that flows onto the beach and more. Bonus: Private butler at your service (per request).

As per Agoda website, you can book the room for ₱170,466/night for 4 pax (discounted all-in rate).

A Tropical Christmas

As a newly-expatriated Filipino Worker abroad, I have the option to mingle with other expats or just bask in the beauty of this little slice of paradise where white sand beach is more delightful than white Christmas and coconut trees under the sun can be as merry and bright like the Christmas trees and lights. I maybe alone, but definitely not lonely.

Well, I don’t have to downplay anything. Spending Christmas in the Maldives is a dream come true. Away from my loved ones, still and all, a precious gift. I mean, it’s not everyday that we get to experience this kind of thing. You just have to view it with fondness and appreciation. With this, I can totally say that my first tropical holiday staycation in the Maldives’ first resort was a blast!

Happy birthday Lord Jesus! Thank you for all the bestowed blessings that have sparked on me and my family. To my readers and followers, warmest greetings of this festive season! Wishing everyone hope, love, good health and a happy tropical Christmas!

Until next holiday season, Kurumba!
